BHS girls' basketball team has good ECT run

The Bloomfield High School girls’ varsity basketball team enjoyed a valiant run in the Essex County Tournament.
Maya Harris scored eight points for the 19th-seeded Lady Bengals in a 56-23 loss to third-seeded Mount St. Dominic in the round of 16 last Saturday Feb. 4 in Caldwell.
The loss snapped the Bengals’ four-game winning streak. BHS moved to a record of 9-9.
The winning streak began with a 58-11 home win over No. 26 Newark Vocational in the first round preliminary on Jan. 28. Two days, the Bengals upset No. 14 seed Nutley, 36-35, in the second round preliminary in Nutley.
Harris and Briana LaFiura each had nine points and Megan Hanna had eight points in the 35-34 win at Verona on Jan. 31 in Super Essex Conference-Colonial Division action. Cierra Middleton had seven points for the Bengals.
Harris scored 14 points and  LaFiura had 10 points to lead the Bengals to a 41-33 home win over Orange on Feb. 2 in divisional play. Middleton had seven points and Hanna and Theresa Buscaino each had four points in the win.
