NYACK, N.Y. - Sophomore forward Mike Williams (Trenton, N.J.) led a trio of double-figure scorers with a game-high 23 points off the bench Wednesday evening, as Bloomfield's men's basketball team improved to 17-6 overall and 11-2 in CACC play with a 76-69 road victory over CACC College.
Bloomfield would set the pace in the early going, looking to complete a season sweep of the Warriors by jumping out to a 23-15 lead through the first eight minutes of the contest. After Nyack cut the deficit to a single bucket with just under nine minutes to play, the Deacons executed a quick 7-0 run to move the lead by to 11 at 39-28 with 3:10 remaining in the frame, with the visitors holding on to take a 39-32 lead into the intermission.
It would be an advantage the North Division's top squad would not relinquish as the Deacons led wire-to-wire over the final 20 minutes of play to pick up their 11th conference victory of the season. Nyack would cut the lead to just a single possession at 53-51 with just over eight minutes to play, but Bloomfield would withstand the hard charge, quickly moving the lead back to eight with three-straight buckets and squashing the hopes of a Warrior comeback. The Deacons completed the season sweep of Nyack with the win, maintaining their 3 1/2-game lead for the top spot in the North Division standings.
Williams added six rebounds to his season-best scoring performance in the victory, while Terry Hicks (Neptune, N.J.) tallied 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists to help key the attack. The frontcourt duo of Kevin Udo (West Orange, N.J.) and Matt Wafula (Harlem, N.Y.) totaled eight points and 11 rebounds, and 11 points and seven rebounds respectively, while Jon Bradley (Jersey City, N.J.) notched eight points and seven rebounds off the bench to round out the top performers.
Bloomfield returns to action Saturday, February 4 when they travel to take on CACC South Division rival Goldey Beacom College. Tip-off for the contest is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
