YACK, N.Y. - Senior guard Vanessa Lamison (Laurel, Md.) led a trio of double-figure scorers with a game-high 20 points Wednesday night, as Bloomfield's women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak by topping CACC North Division rival Nyack College in a 64-44 road victory. The win moves the Lady Deacons to 9-11 overall, and 7-6 in conference play on the season.
Nyack was able to keep pace with their divisional rivals through the first nine minutes of the contest, trailing Bloomfield by just a single bucket at 11-9 with 11 minutes remaining in the opening half. But a lethal 13-0 run by the Lady Deacons would follow over the next four minutes of action, putting Bloomfield out in front to stay for the remainder of the contest. The advantage would balloon to 36-19 heading into the intermission, and would reach as high as 23 points over the remainder of the evening.
The Warriors proved unable to mount a second-half comeback, the Bloomfield defense limiting Nyack to just 33% shooting from the field in the second half and forcing 29 turnovers on the night. The triumph moves the Lady Deacons to a game over .500 in CACC play with six games remaining, and gives the club a firm grasp on the North's fourth and final playoff position with three weeks remaining in the regular season.
Lamison added five rebounds and a game-high seven steals in the win, while sophomore Ivettlis Castro (Carteret, N.J.) went 9-10 from the three-throw line on her way to 14 points and six rebounds. Junior Dre'Shonda Williams (Piscataway, N.J.) continued her streak of solid play with 12 points, four rebounds and three steals to round out the double-figure scorers on the evening.
Bloomfield returns to action Saturday, February 4 when they travel to face CACC South Division rival Goldey Beacom College. Tip-off for the contest is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
